4 The Overclass
This blog is 4 in a series that I will release weekly which will end with the release of the Utopian Manifesto covering Land and Property.
Earlier blogs in this series can be read here:
Who Are the Wealthy Land and Property Owners?
So far in this series I have talked about being a commoner and how commoners are defined. And talked about the common land that us commoners used to have but have now been excluded from.
But who has taken it from us? Who owns this country and this land?
I will call those who have taken it from us and abused it:
The Overclass
This is not a compliment. Think the evil stepmother, Darth Vader, vampires.
But who are The Overclass?
This is my list:
The Monarchy and Hereditary Aristocracy
As I said in the previous blog, common land in the UK was originally taken from commoners in a process started in earnest by William the Conqueror. William gave it to his wealthy and powerful supporters, and to this day, some people have continued to inherit from this patronage. It is this initial gift of land from a King and its continued inheritance today that highlights why royalty and aristocracy are essentially one and the same.
The Crown, including the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, The Crown Estates, The Duke of Buccleuch and Queensbury, The Duke of Atholl's Trusts, The Duke of Westminster, The Earl of Lonsdale, The Tempest family, The Duke of Bedford, The Earl of Iveagh, The Duke of Beaufort, The Earl of Mexborough, The Tollemache Family, these families remain in the largest land owners today and have connections back to William the Conqueror.
1.5% is still officially classed as Crown land, with a further 28% still owned by hereditary aristocratic families while only 5% is owned by every private homeowner in the U.K. If William was a believer in trickle down economics and thought that making people super wealthy would benefit everyone, I wonder if he was hoping it would have happen within 1,000 years, because as of today, we're still waiting for it to start.
Industrialists from the Industrial Revolution
Industrialists who become rich during and after the Industrial Revolution. This was a period of radical change in wealth where wealth did move slightly from the landed aristocracy to industrialists. Today these families appear to us to be old money, but unlike the above their wealth can't be traced back to 1066.
Remember that, the transatlantic slave trade aside, these were the families who gained wealth drawing peasants out of the countryside to work in factories. Factories so dangerous and polluted that it inflicted an early death or debilitating disease drawing even more people from the countryside to replace those they killed. Children from 7 years old, sorry, the children of commoners would work 15 hour days. Amazing conditions for capitalism. Damn those Commoners when they did organise and fight back, through strikes, votes and political pressure to improve pay and conditions. Capitalism didn’t lead to better health and safety for commoners, protests by commoners did.
Foreign Money
In a globalised world, one where there is more money in Asia and America than Europe you have a choice. If you believe that the free market should have free rein, as is the current position in the UK, then it means that wealthy foreign individuals will purchase property in the UK to the detriment of people born here who have less money. This is the capitalist sword that we, as a country, currently have to live and die by.
Don't complain when your children can't afford to buy a house and it's lived in by someone from Asia. Your children maybe able to buy somewhere in Rwanda perhaps. That's the free market, no point complaining about it.
There is one thing that Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Russia and China all have in common, and that is they are all regimes where, if you fall out of favour, you risk losing all your property. The regimes there will take it from you. Maybe your friends and family keep their lives, but they will not keep the wealth you have generated. Even regimes like the US, not one that would want to be placed into the authoritarian camp with Russia, but still, your assets are at risk should you be found to be a tax avoiding or porn star paying ex-President who's financial affairs don't stand up to scrutiny.
To protect your wealth you need to find a country with a strong legal system. One where your property cannot be taken from you. One where you can give property to trusted family members who cannot be touched by the overseas jurisdictions. It would be even better if your investments in this country increased in value without you doing a thing, how great would that be?
Such a utopian country exists and its what leads to ex-Presidents owning Scottish golf courses, Mayfair becoming known as Londongrad, and large horse racing studs being owned by regimes who think nothing of abducting their family members off the streets of the UK and renditioning them out of the country whilst quashing any Police attempt to ask questions.
Whilst we apparently tolerate the distortion to our property market from the purchase with criminal or political cash, and we tolerate the mansions lying empty whilst people are homeless, and we sell arms to Saudi regimes to drop on innocent Yemeni families, we then vilify those same Yemeni people when they risk their lives to try and cross the channel to get to England and ask for a room in a hostel. We want them to stay away because apparently there is no room here for them to live, yet we're happy for a Saudi Prince to buy thousands of acres for horses to live on, or an American to ping small white balls into holes. We're not too full for that.
But its unfair of me to claim that all foreign money invested in property in the UK is criminal money. I'm sure there are many wealthy Chinese people (for example) who became wealthy from hard work and good business. And many of the foreign people who live in the property here may not have committed any crime. Or if a Russian criminal purchases a £20 million property in Mayfair and gives it to his 21 year old niece to live in and become an influencer, she is not a criminal. She has merely been gifted a house.
Nevertheless, there is clearly a problem with criminals using the UK and UK property to shelter money. The National Crime Agency estimates that over £100 billion is laundered through the U.K. Campaign Group Global Witness calls the U.K:
"The money laundering capital of the world"
All we are doing as a country is aiding and abetting criminal activity overseas. Death murder torture and suffering, funded and facilitated by us being unwilling to wake up to what's happening under our nose.
Ignoring the raft of misery it must cause globally, all the while UK property prices are driven up and our children are priced out of owning their own up, or worse, forced to rent from and enrich further those who shouldn't be owning property here in the first place.
Politicians
Theoretically today anyone can become a politician in the UK. Historically it was landed gentry only.
If you create a legal and political system based around land and property then those that own it will end up with land anxiety and need systems and philosophies that protect their moral right to retain it, which is what we have.
Funnily enough our politicians typically seem to still be either wealthy individuals, large land owners, or be able to become wealthy as a result of being in office in addition to having taxpayers fund the purchase of second homes via their expense system.
Take Nadhim Zahawi for example, our short term Chancellor of the Exchequer after Rishi Sunak resigned. Reports show that he has spent over £25 million on property around the UK and owns a 31 acre riding stable in Suffolk. No doubt this does not stop him representing the commoner.
But there have been politicians that recognise the challenge. One politician. fought against tyranny to create a new country and said:
We used to have a better quality of politician. Ones who, even though they came from aristocratic families or wealth, still knew that this was unsustainable. When Churchill compared the profits from the ownership of land to that of other economic activity he said:
Fancy comparing these healthy processes with the enrichment which comes to the landlord who happens to own a plot of land on the outskirts of a great city, who watches the busy population around him making the city larger, richer, more convenient, more famous every day, and all the while sits still and does nothing.
Roads are made, streets are made, services are improved, electric light turns night into day, water is brought from reservoirs a hundred miles off in the mountains -- and all the while the landlord sits still. Every one of those improvements is effected by the labor and cost of other people and the taxpayers. To not one of those improvements does the land monopolist, as a land monopolist, contribute, and yet by every one of them the value of his land is enhanced. He renders no service to the community, he contributes nothing to the general welfare, he contributes nothing to the process from which his own enrichment is derived."
Churchill points out the great bug within our current operating system. Great rewards for people who do things of benefit to society are fine, we can tolerate that, but excessive gains for genocide or planetary destruction, that's different, yet currently it's treated the same and allowed.
Our wealthy capitalist elites have become our politicians and our politicians are a Plutocracy. Government by the wealthy, for the wealthy.
Large Corporates and Extractive Industries
Today, the aristocracy has been overtaken by large multi-national companies and particularly those extracting fossil fuels. Oil companies, gas companies, but also exploitative gig economy and tech companies, many of which are wealthier than some countries yet without the hassle of having to run a country or vote in democratically elected leaders.
These companies operate in the current Capitalist system which puts profits before everything else. There is no other objective. When its your sole purpose to make a profit at any cost, of course you will extract and burn all the oil until there is none left, or try and own all the land and property and charge ever higher rents, and of course you are going to deny that you're doing anything wrong, how else would you sleep at night?
Take for example Gina Reinheart. Gina is the largest landowner in the world owning millions of acres in Australia which is used for mining minerals. She is also one of the worlds richest woman. You'd think that she may be concerned about a climate catastrophe or the survival of her grandchildren? Well, you'd be wrong, Gina is however concerned with having even more money than she currently has, no matter what the cost.
About climate change Gina says:
“I have never met a geologist or leading scientist who believes adding more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere will have any significant effect on climate change..."
A statement by a woman with an emotional and money tied relationship with the land, not to mention an ego. Unfortunately Gina isn't that bright and warned us about listening to people with an emotional and money tied relation with the land and an ego. In a speech to children at her old school she said:
"Please be very careful about information spread on an emotional basis, or tied to money, or egos or power-seekers."
Gina is right. The Overclass do have the biggest attachment to money and will also tend to have large ego's. We do need to be very cautious when listening to them.
Just to reinforce how unpleasant she is, Gina also talked about how lazy Australians are and helpfully pointed out that:
"Africans‘ go to work, and they are willing to work for $2 a day. "
That's the benefit of slavery, that even 400 years after it was supposedly made illegal, we've retained enough systemic racism that you can still exploit Black people and increase your profits. Phew!
Being fair to Gina, her dad did say in an interview that Aboriginals should be sterilised if they cannot accept "white civilisation" so perhaps she has improved slightly from the generation that raised her, its difficult to know.
Land is money, and to The Overclass everything is about money, whether its regretting that you cannot own slaves anymore, criticising your lazy countrymen who reduce your profits, or monetising your land even though its killing everyone.
Of course Gina would look at the sand on her land and bury her head deep into it. Her link to the land is that of profit. Her singular focus is for making profit. Money extraction from her asset no matter what cost, and she does that really well.
Oil and gas companies are of course the best example of this group. They make vast profits from the destruction of the planet. They make even more profit when Russia invades Ukraine. Every penny is based on the eradication of every living thing, and they achieve even more, if women and children are getting bombed at the same time. BP make record profits because of the war. They invest these profits in extracting more oil creating more environmental damage. This is the system. The key elements in this system are:
Profits are everything.
War is good for profits.
Destroying civilisation is good for profits.
This is what happens when we have politicians who prioritise profit over community.
I have nothing against someone who does something useful and beneficial for society and becomes wealthier. People are entitled to make money. But when they make money from the common ground, the proceeds should flow to the common good.
As Churchills words in the previous section shows, land ownerships is not about making anything, but taking everything, these land owners who claim to be ' wise stewards of the land and of the countryside, of nature and farming.' So how has that gone? Well, the following is a list is of things which enriches large wealthy land owners:
Fracking
Mining of rocks; coal; gas; oil
Farming subsidies
Industrial agriculture
Hardly a list of things which are about caring for the environment, but they're all really profitable.
Banks
This group could be in the above but I feel they need a special mention. Since the deregulation of the financial services industry in the Thatcher/Regan era, plus the US decision not to keep its currency pegged to the value of gold, capital has been free to move globally.
This changed banks from the providers of a service to weaponised extractors of wealth.
This has led to banks and the financial industry now being more powerful than national Governments. This was illustrated nicely with the Liz Truss budget, whatever the rights or wrongs with that budget were, she, as Prime Minister, was unable to pass the budget of her choosing and within weeks lost her job. This is the impact of global capital and its ability to hold countries under a form of control to maintain their ability to profit.
And the Bank of England, who's job it is is to keep inflation in check has singularly failed to do so, with inflation spiraling out of control at over 10%. But it's Chief Economist was not going to let his employers incompetence stand in the way of attacking commoners, he said this week:
From a banker. Who in 2008 was part of a cabal of money launderers and criminals operating casino like parasitic businesses that brought the global economy to its knees, and went to Washington, Brussels and Beijing and asked for Trillions of Dollars to bail out their businesses, because unlike normal capitalism where the weakest go bankrupt, they were special and needed state benefits for failure, paid for by generations of taxpayers yet to be born.
They got their money. Did they then take a pay cut and slash bonuses, showing humility? Did they then accept that they needed to be poorer? Not in the slightest. In the 2008/2009, they paid themselves bonuses, with our bail out money. Accept they will be poorer? No, thats just for the Commoners, not for The Overclass.
President Obama was not unaware of Commoners smelling the blood and gave bankers a warning. When the CEOs of these failed businesses were pleading their case to President Obama in 2008, his response was:
“Be careful how you make those statements, gentlemen. The public isn’t buying that...My administration...is the only thing between you and the pitchforks.”
Main Stream Media with the support of Social Media
This group also needs a special mention because, in my opinion, it's the power of the word which has created and drawn together various strands which create our nation. our social fabric. It's newspapers that meant that people in a large specific area started to use a common language. That language then bound them closer as a common group based on the stories that get told.
The narrative from the establishment media forms the core of nationalism. It can be used to promote racism over centuries. It's useful for claiming that millions of pounds given by the government to large wealthy land owners who do no work for a living and with no questions asked is a "subsidy for land stewardship" whereas paltry sums given to a commoner, a woman trying to feed her kids, thats because she's sponging and lazy and she needs to prove she needs it, she needs to work, she needs to be degraded. The words matter. The words create the narrative. Words count.
And unfortunately, it's just a reality that the wealthy are the only ones who could afford to print newspapers. So it's their story which seeps into the fabric of society.
You cannot maintain a distorted and unfair system based on theft and murder without having the ability to quell the majority of the population on a daily basis by saying "it's just how it is, you can't change it" or actively attacking someone who goes outside the norm, or just attacking others outside of certain common groups and saying "its them, those in the boat, they're the problem".
The witch-hunts of medieval times, undertaken to ensure women who stepped out of line were killed, putting many other woman back in their place in fear, have now been replaced with social media shaming and cancel culture.
The system would mock commoners who spoke up for change. They would be belittled and put down. That is the purpose of having a media also owned by the very wealthiest in society.
The Media is a key cog in keeping populations in check. And media owned by The Overclass, will obviously try and keep the pitchforks at bay.
When we're not bickering, we have a media machine that ensures we remain anxious and in fear. Whether its billionaire Rupert Murdoch claiming that revolution is needed because Trumps election was stolen, despite not believing this and subsequently having to pay out millions of dollars in an out of court settlement for saying so, or the weather and 'The Beast from the East' that will kill us, the latest pandemic, air pollution, wild swimming in shit infested water, or pedophiles', there is always something in the media that wants to kill us.
There are some good sources which I have put here. But they are few and fighting against the system.
Entertainment (Sports, Film, TV, Music, Influencers)
Today we see wealth being generated by celebrities. Some from the older entertainment industries like film and sport, plus new celebrities from social media. These are beneficiaries of our current economic system, people who help Coke make more profits.
In the case of sports persons and athletes you cannot argue that they work hard, are dedicated, or gifted. They entertain us, they should be rewarded and there is no harm in them being wealthy in comparison to others. There is perhaps less of an argument for people who live in private gated communities locking out the commoners but then, this is just a reflection of the fear of pitchforks.
The Churchill quote above drew a distinction between people who make, and people who take, to earn their wealth. Entertainers earn their wealth, but I have included them here because, if you earn enough to get a seat at the table of tyranny with The Overclass but you forget about the Commoners. You are no better. You need to fight the system from your position of privilege in order to escape the toxicity of The Overclass.
God
Religion, that wealthiest of wealthy land owners in centuries past, used as a tool by The Overclass to suppress the Commoners. In Christianity, they key prayer, allegedly taught by Jesus, the son of God says:
Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us...
Extract from the Lords Prayer
It's almost as if those people steeling the common land are asking for our forgiveness.
The Catholic Church and the Church of England, still two of the worlds biggest land owners, have lost much of their power and influence. Like many in The Overclass, if you get too big for your boots, others will take you down a peg. But this hasn't stopped The Overclass relying on God to justify their obscene wealth and genocidal behaviour.
One former Archbishop of Canterbury, a mere 4 years after banks brought the global financial system to its knees and demanded trillion dollar bailouts from all taxpaying commoners, said that the people on benefits were the countries greatest problem and that state benefits were:
"Fueling vices and impoverishing us all'
Textbook Overclass behaviour.
Or take another example, the Wilks Brothers. These Billionaires own 672,000 acres of land, the 12th largest landowner in the US. They are very God fearing men in the full American tradition of American Christianity.
In the UK we assume that religion in the US is the same as it is here. That is not right. Christianity in the US can be taken to extreme lengths. In many places, Christianity is practiced in such a way that, if practiced by non-white, non-American people, or Muslims, it would be classified as fundamentalism, extremism, or terrorism. But in the US, because they are worshiping the 'right God' (or the white God), its accepted as okay.
The Wilks Brothers have their own Christian extremist religious sect that they follow where they worship their own made up god, Yahweh. Beliefs includes all the normal views held by religious fanatics. Abortion is murder. Homosexuality is leading to the end of the world etc.
One of them (I can't be bothered to find out which) said:
“We didn’t create the Earth so how can we save it? When you realize that Yahweh is in control, It’s much simpler, you can turn over some of those responsibilities to him. Maybe the melting of polar ice is us getting a little scorched here as a message from God. "
Later that summer, he described the fight against the gay pride movement:
“What we’re fighting against today is not a sexual revolution particular to our own enlightened age, but it’s a return to pre-Christian pagan sexual immorality or perversion.”
Maybe Paganism has something to teach us. Maybe respecting nature and enjoying sex is better than consumerism and medieval religious extremism.
Of course, they have become billionaires from extracting gas from the ground, so their God is obviously going to defend mining. If I have voices in my head telling me to ignore the fact that my wealth generation was going to kill everyone on the planet, I would never see daylight again. The Wilks Brothers on the other hand, they fund adverts on Google telling us to chill out. They get to put the voices their heads into our heads too.
Like Gina mentioned above, if you invented these characters people would laugh at how preposterous and genocidal they are. Unfortunately, they're real, and they hold the future of our common planet in their hands.
The Military and The Police
And God is so unreliable. She rarely sends plagues just when you need them, and she seems to be indiscriminate about who those plagues fall upon. So The Overclass needs protection from the pitchforks, and this is where the military and the police come into the picture.
And to be clear, I'm not blaming the commoner who becomes a soldier or policeman. They have my respect because they do it with good intentions. I'm talking here about the system they are ingrained into, in many cases without them really having visibility or understanding. But one which makes them attack other commoners with riot shields and dogs because their superiors want commoners to riot for their own political games as this makes future pitchfork suppression easier.
Historically of course it was the King and the Grand old Duke of York who had 10,000 men. When you own everything, you need protection from potentially anyone else. Organised military developed from the system of feudal lords and militia, basically commoners with an obligation to fight on behalf of the Lord when called upon.
The Police are a more modern construct, supposed to be local individuals nominated to be constables on behalf of the community and granted rights of arrest over technically everyone, although its easier to exercise that right over a commoner rather than someone who can buy their way out of trouble.
Today these organisations, we are told, are here for our protection although we now have weapons of mass destruction from which no armies can protect us. But, we are told they will fight to defend us. The police are there to protect us and serve us, so we are told. Yet its hard to wonder if this is really true when all our electronic messages are collected by these bodies and when our rights to protest are gradually eroded by the police.
When the Commander in Chief of the worlds largest and most well funded industrial military complex attacks a 16 year old girl because she thinks that capitalism is destroying the planet you have to wonder who he would order the army to fight if it came to a revolution. Would they be protecting the 16 year olds, or the oil company?
And us Europeans we mock the Americans and their 2nd amendment right to bear arms as protection against an all powerful establishment who want to suppress the Commoner, but in the event of revolt, how well will the European fare against militarised police?
And despite the fact that many Americans do not believe that our common planet is being made inhospitable, the American military by contrast, with their vast resources, billions of dollars in funding, and vast data sets of intelligence, identify climate change as its biggest long term threat. Not Russia, not China, not Nuclear war, not aliens, it is the American military that is spending more than anyone on working out how it can operate when the temperatures increase and it needs to defend scare resources. That is a strange approach in a country that thinks climate change is a left wing myth.
Exceptions and Allies
I have identified a group, The Overclass, that I perceive to be the problem, the enemy. But it is unfair not to point out some exceptions. There are some within The Overclass who are aware of their position and advocate for change, some who ally with commoners.
Abigail Disney
Abigail Disney, net worth estimated to be $120million, grand daughter of Roy Disney, brother of Walt, co-founder of a drawing business.
"Nothing in history ever moved forward just because people advocated for their own interests. Things really change when people are traitors to their class, and my class needs some really good traitors these days."
She was a signatory of a letter to Presidential candidates in 2020 that consisted of people in the top 1/10th of the top 1% of wealthiest Americans, asking for them to be taxed more. She also closed a recent letter to the Davos World Economic Forum, critisising them for achieving nothing but hot air:
"then all the private talks won’t change what’s coming—it’s taxes or pitchforks. Let’s listen to history and choose wisely."
Sir Charles Burrel 10th Baronet and his wife Isobella Tree
The owners of Knepp Estate. Typical aristocratic family with vast tracts of land being passed down through generations, and intensive farmers for decades. A family that could easily make it into The Overclass.
Knepp estate owners are Sir Charles Burrell 10th Baronet, and his wife Isabella Tree, writer of the book Wilding. However, their efforts to use their land in the defence of the planet have to be given credit. You may own it by historical theft, but that does not stop you using it to do good things today.
Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan, 3rd Baronet
Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan, 3rd Baronet, descendant of Sir Charles, 1st Baronet, a slave owner in the Caribbean who's laissez-faire policies in Government were largely responsible for the starvation and death of over 1 million Irish commoners in the Potato Famines. However, within 2 generations, the 3rd Baronet was the first person to give his estate to the National Trust, the first donation of an estate ever. Another relative travelled to Grenada in February 2023 donating $100,000 to that country and publicly apologising for their families slave ownership. Perhaps this is a model the British monarch could study to aid their survival.
Charles Rothschild
Charles Rothschild from the banking family, never missed a day at work in the bank. Yet had an interest in wildlife, listing 284 sites around the UK which could become nature reserves. This work eventually let to the legal protection of places specifically for nature, something continued today with The Wildlife Trust and SSI's, Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Without this protection how much money could have been made from selling this land and concreting over it and destroying the wildlife. He may be a Rothschild, almost the epitome of The Overclass, but we have to give him credit for saving the small bits of land for wildlife that we have left, he said:
"It is only on land specifically set aside for it, does nature come first."
The Forestry Commission
And perhaps we can add the Forestry Commission to the list. Initially set up to ensure Great Britain grew enough trees to ensure continued ship building for the Royal Navy. Responsible for some shocking environmental decisions in the large scale planting of spruce forests across the UK, but now showing promise in pursuing sustainable forestry, increased woodland coverage of native species, and environmental forestry management to maximise carbon capture and native wildlife.
Sir Julian Rose 5th and 4th Baronet
Known as Julan Rose he inadvertently inherited his title and Hardwicke Estate (900 acres) when his older brother died unexpectedly in 1963. Since then, the near bankrupt estate has become a thriving and in many cases a trail blazing model of sustainable farming and land management. Under pressure to intensively farm the land, Julian put in place farming methods that were organic, before organic existed as a method. He went on to join the Soil Association board and refusing to sell his food to supermarkets, instead using local supply chains to supply local communities. He campaigned, with support from Prince Charles, to save unpasteurised milk despite the scorn of the large dairy chains. Julian betrayed his class and put the planet before profits.
Octavia Hill
Not quite a woman from The Overclass as her father lost all his money leaving the family unable to give her a formal education, but an ally nonetheless, Octavia Hill campaigned for the plight of the poor and the need for them to be able to access open spaces. She was the first person recorded as using the term 'Green Belt' to describe open spaces of nature around towns, and campaigned for the protection of open spaces from development, eventually setting up a organisation to own and protect such spaces, one called "National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty" known today as The National Trust.
Its a good list of exceptions, but its a very short list.
Division
Given that we are the many and they are the few, how is this situation allowed to continue? Clearly militarising the police against the commoner, having a legal system which protects The Overclass and having the most technologically advanced armed forces are probably enough. But The Overclass don't stop there. How else do this very small minority maintain a hold over the common wealth of the many?
If we all picked up our pitchforks, the mob could not be stopped. The Overclass know this, they whisper their fear of the day the pitchforks are raised.
Another tactic used is division of the Commoners. There are many dividing lines amoungst commoners. We make negative comments about the nearest town to our own. We argue about skin colour. We argue about gender. Young versus old. We cheer on different football teams. We develop nationalism to claim superiority over another group the other side of our new line. Our politics is left or right and social media keeps us angry and complaining.
This all helps The Overclass maintain a silent control without having to be the focus of anger.
And if we try to escape from all the fear anxiety and noise by drinking too much or taking mind altering substances, then we become even more detached and unaware of whats happening. If kids want to take laughing gas just to have a good night out, they too will now be criminalised, well, the Commoners amongst them will, drug taking by The Overclass has always been allowed.
All of these things keep us well and truly distracted from looking at The Overclass. Its almost as if we're caught within a system designed to keep us arguing, fighting, scared or drunk, as that way, no one knows what the real problem is or who the real villains are, those who continue to steal the common off the goose, and without being able to see the enemy, there is no desire to pick up the pitchforks and address the issue.
But am I part of the problem? Am I just creating another division? Commoners versus The Overclass? My reason for identifying The Overclass is to highlight the people who benefit the most from keeping the status quo as it is and defending our current system.
In my opinion the real enemy here is the system. The one which created a huge gap between rich and poor and which puts all our lives at risk.
But the beneficiaries of the system need to overthrow it, or accept that being overthrown is a risk which could involve violence against them.
I have listed above some individuals who fall directly into The Overclass, but are working to change the system. And that is what we all need to do to be on the right side of history.
So there are many factors within this system that stop us picking up pitchforks. But when we do, we need to know who to direct our anger at, which is why I have identified The Overclass.
But there is another group who I believe is aiding and abetting The Overclass in keeping the system stacked in their favour so that Commoners are kept suppressed, and that is the Middle Classes.
So next week it's their turn.
