My Coffee Machine

This is my coffee machine. I love my coffee machine. Its been on two holidays with me, once to Cornwall, the other time camping in Wales (had an electric hookup). If I could, I'd take it with me everywhere.

I always get Nespresso pods, no point getting cheap ones, live a little and spend the money I say!

While we’re on the subject of coffee, please please don’t use multinational chains to get your coffee. Starbucks and Costa make god awful coffee anyway and you’re giving money to large corporates. If you have to use a chain, I’ve found Nero to be the better of the bunch but I don’t know who owns this chain.

If you can, use independents. If it’s owned by a local family, also spending their money locally, employing local people, and with a passion for what they do, that’s got to be better for us all than increasing the profits of a large corporate tax avoiders like Starbucks. We can't always avoid large chains, but there is little point in clapping NHS and key workers during the Covid lockdown if we then don't make efforts to ensure money goes back into the local economy and the UK tax system by using independent traders. If we all avoided coffee chains like Starbucks, I bet it would pay for at least 1 more nurse in every hospital, thats probably better for them than clapping them each week!

So here are my favourite independent coffee shops in central Bristol.

Top of Corn Street/Broad Street, next to the Grand Hotel.

Amazing coffee, delicious cinnamon buns, lovely people who run it, really know about their coffee and take care with what they do and Google Maps has a great pic of me having a lockdown work meeting outside of it.

The Tuk Tuk by the Suspension Bridge (Chapter and Holmes)

Not a shop but a Tuk Tuk. On the Ashton Court side of Clifton Suspension Bridge

The best coffee, plus the best eggs in the UK. Open the whole of lockdown (as a convenience store).

Small Street, opposite the Crown Court.

In normal times its full of lawyers and barristers, but a great coffee, lovely staff.

Park Street

A new one that opened during lock down (well done to them for that) I've enjoyed visiting and now use it regularly.
