New Big Dog

This week I can’t ignore the the big news, who will be the next leader of the Tory party now that “Operation Save Big Dog”, the self styled operation to save BJ has failed.

This is my analysis of the contenders and how it will play out. I don’t know much about any of them so this is my totally uninformed analysis along with my prediction of who is most likely to win, and who I would like to win.

There are various things that will go for and against the candidates such as how they voted over Brexit, their approach to removing civil liberties during the pandemic, and obviously tax. Plus there will be subjects which are pointless and divisive which will be used to try and split votes and distract people, such as gender issues.

Penny Mordaunt

Splash reality TV show contestant and ex-British Army Officer (see Ben Wallace below) currently tripping over the “what makes a woman” issue.

Nadhim Zahawi

Iraq immigrant, Muslim background which may not sit right with some in the Tory party. Handled vaccine roll out so gained plus points there. But judging by todays headlines, it looks like some people may not want him as leader.

Rishi Sunack

Launched his campaign with website Ready4Rishi, that web domain address was registered in December 23rd, within days of the Partygate photos being leaked to the press, photos which were taken from 11 Downing Street where Rishi worked. He has already been subject to a revenge hatchet attacks while he was in post which I can only assume were in revenge for this photo leaking, but I don't think this treachery will go unpunished. I think Rishi will have more flack to come.

Remember that the American war for independence from Britain came about because the British taxed the colony without letting the Americans have a vote. Rishi took this a step further by being an American citizen taxing British people. American citizens pay tax on their worldwide income so our chancellor would’ve been increasing the taxes paid to America rather than for UK hospitals and schools. Strange approach for the tax man.

In addition to this, his wife is richer than the Queen and uses her non-Dom status to ensure that she doesn’t pay anymore UK taxes than is needed.

My suspicion is that the pro-BJ faction in the party will not allow him to become leader. Rishi has launched his campaign pointing out that his parents were children of immigrants who worked hard so that his parents could run a corner shop pharmacy. This gives you the imagery of hard working working class people, just the type of immigrants people like. He leaves out of his story the fact that he was sent to Winchester College private school, went onto Oxford Uni then Stanford then Goldman Sachs, before marrying a Billionaire. Totally relatable for most British people.

Suella Braverman

Kenyan and Indian decent. I don’t know much about her. BJs legal advisor. Said that deporting people to Rwanda was legal before it was stopped by judges in the ECJ. She must have been good to reach Cambridge and the Sorbonne studying law so credit to her.

Jeremy Hunt

He was in charge of the NHS and its preparation for any pandemic prior to any pandemic existing in 2019. When he recently criticised BJ, one of BJs obsessives hit back in a very unusual 'blue on blue' attack saying…

And whilst Nadine Dorres comes across as slightly unhinged with her unwavering support for BJ, this seemed to me to be a spot on analysis.

Savid Javid

Bristol born from genuine working class background. Don’t know much else about the guy. Muslim upbringing which, like Zahawi, may not be stomached by some Tories.

Grant Shapps

Best friend of Alan Partridge, which I think tells us enough that this. Man should not be allowed to run a train set, let alone anything else. Current Transport secretary! God help us.

Tom Tugendhat

Recently said that the UK should consider re-joining the EU. Ex British Military Intelligence so he should have realised that this statement is the same as shooting yourself in the knee just before a run.

Liz Truss

Passionate about cheese. I suspect she could end up as favourite. Woman, so she ticks a diversity box. But white, so acceptable to Tory heartland feelings and I suspect the power behind the throne would consider her easily manipulated, so a strong candidate. Not sure why I feel this but I suspect she is liked by Rupert Murdoch, party members and financial backers, so I think she's a contender.

Kemi Badenoch

I don’t know much about this woman. Nigerian decent. Right wing so triggers the left, including left wing people of colour. In my opinion, this woman would make Labour and much of the left wing deeply uncomfortable so in terms of putting up the candidate that your opposition struggles with the most, she seems to tick the box.

Chris Pincher. Not Running. But incredibly, still an MP paid £80k a year. The man who started this whole process. A man who has apologied for sexually assaulting men and who prompted BJ to say “all the sex pests support me” which ultimately triggered BJs downfall.

Ben Wallace Not Running Appeared to be nice and Tory, ex-army, but in my view a bit of a dick. The British class system takes private school boys and can turn them into British Army officers. I like to think that the best of these are some of the best army officers in the world, but I suspect that the worst ones are weeded out and sent into politics. He made some cringe comments about Russia which just aren’t helpful or grown up but has fortunately ruled himself out.

Also not running, black turle neck wearer and school disco snogger Matt Hancock.

Coke taking Mickey Gove not running.

Robotic straight faced defender of every single BJ mess up Dom Raab, not running.

My prediction of the winner: Liz Truss.

My choice for winner: Kemi Badeonch.
