I’ve really avoided this subject, avoided reading about it, listening to news, everything.

Being told you’re going to get run over in 3 months time isn’t what you want to expose yourself too every night.

So I know very little about what’s caused this or why we are where we are.

Poor planning by successive Governments is one reason no doubt. Greed over the years by power companies another. And circumstances such as war and the dominance of China another.

So anyway, I’m sure Lizzie “eat my cheese” T will solve all our problems next month, until then, here are my top of my head ideas that I’d do if I was Lizzie.

1. Build gas storage.

2. Build a Severn barrage.

3. Purchase 5 mini nuclear powers station projects from the main global players, probably French/Chinese

4. Create a U.K. nuclear power company that is minimum 51% owners by British resident/British domiciled individuals and pension funds. That company will work alongside point 3 and create a British nuclear industry, from University research, apprenticeships, all the engineering knowledge needed, and build a further 5 mini nuclear plants.

5. Review all U.K. homes where insulation is an issue and pay to resolve it.

6. Review all places where solar power can be used and install panels. Allow homes to sell back power.

7. Review where electric car charging points can be installed where cars can sell back power at peak times.

8. Charge car users based on time of day, length of journey and pollution levels for each journey.

9. Establish more off shore wind farms.

10. Create a new University research fund for battery and electrical storage research.

11. Put in place works councils at all companies in the energy supply chain giving workers increased say in company decisions.

12. Legislate to ensure that dividends, bonuses and pay are not excessive in comparison to costs for all companies in the power sector.

Thats 12 ideas that took me less than 10 minutes to think of. Lizzie Cheese will no doubt be a lot more inspiring and effective and I’m really confident that no one is going to die this winter!
