Budget 24 - Part 2
Sunday 3rd November, 4 days after the tax raising budget and I think we can see the problem.
As voters we make it absolutely impossible for politicians to raise taxes.
Our schools buildings are crumbling, kids are being taught in tents, yet when a politician tries to raise some money to fix it all hell breaks lose.
Lets look at the current whiners.
Farmers
The IHT change that my last blog ended on.
A quick Google search of headlines:
I still think this will get noisier.
Scotland
The SNP is demanding compensation for the increase in Employers NIC. This is because they have a large number of people employed in the public sector and therefore will face a large increase in NIC.
The audacity of demanding more money when they have also received a £3.4billion increase in funding and receive more money per head that England and Wales just shows the insanity of the SNP.
Middle Class Parents with Kids at Private School
As announced pre-election VAT will be imposed on private school fees.
These poor schools struggling to fund things have managed to engage legal advisors who are going to challenge the Government in the Supreme Court:
I don't think they're going to launch a campaign against the 50% increase in bus fares or the continuing tax break anyone driving a big Audi or BMW to work is getting from the continuing fuel duty freeze. I guess these things are okay.
Who else doesn't want to pay:
GPs and Care Homes
Care Homes. These businesses run by Private Equity firms managing to extract millions from British taxpayers. They're apparently now going to go out of business. Surely thats capitalism for you? If they're not good enough to turn a profit they should go out of business.
And GP's. Remember those people who after the war refused to join the NHS because they didn't want to demean themselves and become a state employee. So for the last 80 years whilst the country and working class people have been massively helped by the NHS which people value and by extension value GPs, they bask in that glory whilst remaining separate and constantly demanding extra pay as they are outside the NHS and independent businesses.
They don't want to demean themselves by joining a great institution like the NHS because being public sector workers and being paid by the Government is beneath them, but they want Government help to pay their payroll costs. You really cannot make it up.
Robot Rachel
Lets remember that all Rachel has done is raise taxes to match the level of spending the Tories were already spending. Their own rule was that they should not borrow for this every day expenditure. All she has done is raise taxes to meet this rule and it seems like every small interest group has gone into melt down.
When the Tories raised taxes on working peoples income last year to the highest levels seen since WW2, I can't quite remember such outrage and legal challenges. Its interesting to see who is willing to pay for services, who benefits from those services, and who doesn't want to pay.
Big Dog
Finally, a comment on Kemi, the new Tory Leader. She was my choice back in 2022 as my blog set out then.
